Speaker Bio

Dr. Ray Chaudhuri is a Pediatric Cardiologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, division of Pediatric Cardiology. She is the Director of Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Imaging and Fetal Heart Program. She is also the preceptor for Pediatric Cardiology rotation for Medical Students, Residents and Fellows. She earned her medical degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria. She then completed a residency in Pediatrics at University of Toledo School of Medicine. Dr. Ray Chaudhuri pursued a fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology at University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Subsequently, she pursued a fellowship in Cardiac Advanced Imaging at Boston Children’s Hospital. Her clinical interests include Fetal Cardiology, Multimodality Cardiac Structural Imaging, Cardiogenetics and Congenital Heart disease in Pregnancy.

Dr. Ray Chaudhuri is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology. She is a member of the Fetal Heart Society, American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Cardiology, Society of Cardiovascular MRI and Society of Cardiovascular CT. Dr. Ray Chaudhuri’s research during fellowship was on fetuses with d-Transposition of Great Arteries together with world renowned fetal cardiologist Dr. Lisa Hornberger. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and she has presented at several medical conferences. She is a reviewer of the Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging CASE and serves as an Editorial Board member of the journal US Cardiology.

Dr. Ellen Thompson is a Professor of Medicine
in the Department of Cardiovascular Services
at Marshall University Joan C. Edwards
School of Medicine. She received her MD from Marshall University School of Medicine in 1996, and Fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at the same institution.

Dr. Thompson is board certified in Cardiovascular Disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and in Transthoracic Echocardiography and Nuclear Cardiology. She is currently the Program Director for the Cardiology Fellowship Training Program and Faculty Advisor for the American Medical Women’s Association.

Dr. Thompson has a wide range of clinical appointments and experience, including Medical Director of Noninvasive Cardiology at St Mary’s Regional Heart Center, Director of Nuclear Cardiology, and Medical Co-Director and Co-Founder of Project Echo Endo-Cardio Rural Outreach and Education Clinics. Additionally, she is the Medical Director and Founder of the Cardio-Oncology Program at Marshall Health/Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Her passion in medicine is addressing health care disparities and access to care. She has done an outreach clinic in the coalfields of West Virginia for several years to bring subspecialty care to those in need. Recently, she has been involved in starting a cardiology clinic at Ebenezer clinic. She is active in the American Heart Association (AHA) Advocacy Committee, and a founding member of the WV American College of Cardiology (ACC) Advocacy Committee.

She is currently involved in the WV Chapter of ACC, including the Governor’s Council, the ACC Women in Cardiology (WIC), the WV Chapter Executive Committee, and others.
She lives in Huntington and enjoys travel when able. She has one son, who attends Huntington High.

Sarah Embrey, PharmD, BCPS

Sarah Embrey is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist for the Medication Use Team at WVU Medicine in Morgantown, West Virginia. She graduated from West Virginia University with her PharmD degree, and she completed a PGY1 residency at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia. She currently serves as the President of WVSHP. Throughout the pandemic she worked as a clinical pharmacist in the critical care and step-down units of Thomas Memorial Hospital in Charleston, West Virginia. She is passionate about patient safety and mentoring new graduates through the residency process.

Dr. Brittany Messer is a clinical pharmacy specialist practicing with Marshall Health Cardiology. She is a graduate of Marshall University School of Pharmacy and completed residency at the VA Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. Dr. Messer currently works closely with the heart failure and anticoagulation clinics and sees patients in the hypertension clinic at Marshall Cardiology. She serves as a WV Chapter Cardiovascular Team Representative.

Jennifer Ogrin, RN

Jennifer Ogrin began her nursing career in 2017. This was not her original goal, but after starting a career in TV production, she felt she had another calling. She started working in a cardiology office, and there she found it! Almost immediately applying to nursing school, she continued to work in the cardiology office, following her passion after graduation into the cardiac catheterization laboratory. She transitioned to the outpatient setting and loved the interaction with patients. Coordinating care and educating patients led to a start-up project for monitoring and intervening on acute myocardial infarction patients upon discharge to prevent readmissions. After years of development, and a dramatic reduction in readmission rates, the AMI clinic is transitioning toward deeper involvement in the cardiology fellowship program. Utilizing her aptitude for technology and data management, she began work on another start up program specializing in monitoring thoracic impedance in patient with implantable cardiac defibrillators in order to prevent decompensation of congestive heart failure. To heighten the care and management of these patients, she works to fully integrate electrophysiology, congestive heart failure and general cardiology clinics. As those programs continue to evolve and transition into new stages, she is currently working to develop the new Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy clinic at CAMC Cardiology.

Leigh Chaney is the Corporate Director of the CAMC University for the CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine. She holds a Master of Science in Industrial Relations and a Bachelor of Science in Public Service. Leigh has over 40 years of professional experience in the energy and health care industries with a primary emphasis in Organization Development, Change Management and Human Resources. She holds several certifications including: Everything DiSC Workplace; Prosci’s Change Management Methodology, Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), and Linkage’s Certificate in Organization Development. She has received certifications as a Certified Competent Facilitator (CCF); Professional Facilitator (CPF); as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR); as a Vital Smarts Crucial Conversations Trainer and Crucial Accountability Trainer; certified Influencer Facilitator, and Bob Pike certified Instructional Designer. Leigh is also a DDI Facilitator for their Leadership Development and Targeted Selection Programs; and certified as an EQi-2 Facilitator. Throughout her career, she has partnered with leaders across an organization’s footprint to provide strategic internal consultative and facilitative support in the areas of change, coaching, leadership and employee development, facilitation, meeting planning and design, talent review and succession planning, teambuilding, process improvement and performance management.

Evie Davis Garcia, MA

EVIE DAVIS GARCIA is the Department Administrator
for Marshall Cardiology, a 37-provider clinical department of Marshall Health, the faculty practice plan of the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, overseeing the operational functions of the Department of Cardiovascular Services with four locations in West Virginia.

Evie holds a master’s degree in Communication Studies from Marshall University and a bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, and Cross-Cultural Communications from Liberty University.

Evie previously worked in administration for WV State Government as Director of Organization and Human Resource Development and the Center for Quality Government, and for

Lockheed as an Auditor with the Engineering and Sciences Division in Annapolis, Maryland and a Project Scientist with Lockheed Martin’s Environmental Systems and Technologies Company in Edison, New Jersey.

An avid traveler, Evie has enjoyed trips to Poland, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Russia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Croatia, Greece, and Italy. She is an active member of the River Cities Community Church in Huntington and Iglesia Hay Esperanza (There Is Hope Church). She and her husband Henry founded Hay Esperanza Ministries, Inc. – providing community, social, and spiritual outreach ministries for non-native English speakers in the United States and around the world.
